There are indeed many rubber raw materials for making oil seals, such as nitrile rubber, fluororubber, hydrogenated nitrile rubber, silicone rubber, AEM, etc.
But the selection of which raw material to use for oil seals is based on the requirements of the oil seal's usage indicators. The use environment of oil seals is in the state of hot oil, requiring temperature and oil resistance.
1. Silicone rubber is not oil resistant and does not meet the requirements. It is being phased out;
2. If the temperature of the working area is low, generally within 120 degrees, NBR can be selected, and the relative price is also suitable;
3. If the temperature exceeds 120 degrees, ACM needs to be used, but its resistance to gasoline and oil is not good, there are many processing problems, and it will deform if compressed for a long time. Oil seals made of ordinary ACM materials are prone to oil leakage during high-speed operation. You can consider using AEM.
4. If the requirements are higher and the cost is more relaxed, fluororubber is the best choice. Nowadays, fluororubber raw rubber costs only a few tens of yuan. If the cost limitation problem is basically solved, fluororubber has a high cost-effectiveness.
5. If higher requirements are needed, such as seals in oil wells, hydrogenated nitrile rubber can only be used.
