Pat Gelsinger, Intel's newly appointed chief executive, has laid out a multi-year strategy to invest $20 billion in two new semiconductor plants in Arizona, and plans to move into contract manufacturing. The existing Arizona plant makes products such as wires with a width of 10 nanometers, and the new plant is expected to use processes beyond 7 nanometers.Production will start in 2024 and capacity has not yet been announced.Intel said IT would use its roughly 50 years of experience in IDM(vertically integrated manufacturing) technology to contract manufacturing for semiconductor manufacturers and IT companies that push for their own semiconductor development.
