Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Academy, said that taking into account macroeconomic, epidemic and market factors, the number of domestic tourists is expected to reach 3.98 billion in 2022, and domestic tourism revenue is expected to reach 3.81 trillion yuan, up 19% and 27% year-on-year respectively, and nearly 70% of the level of the same period in 2019.
China's domestic tourism industry has been hit hard by the epidemic since 2020, and the number of domestic tourists in 2021 improved year-on-year, recovering more than half compared with 2019. In the first three quarters of 2021, the total number of domestic trips reached 2.689 billion, up 39.1 percent year-on-year, recovering to 58.5 percent in the same period of 2019. In 2022, China's epidemic prevention policy is expected to be further optimized, with more precise tracking and control of sporadic outbreaks. In non-medium-high risk areas, there will be no arbitrary suspension of production or closure of public consumption places, so as to minimize the impact and side effects of multiple outbreaks in China.
